Fuel spill closes Caltex terminal in Sydney
Production at Caltex's nearby 124,500 barrel-per-day Kurnell oil refinery was not impacted and supplies to customers would not be affected, the company said, adding the terminal was expected to remain closed for the rest of Friday.
'There is plentiful supply of petrol from Caltex's terminals and we will adjust our supply chain to ensure this fuel continues to be delivered to retail sites,' Caltex said in a statement. The spill occurred as routine maintenance was being done on a 2 million litre tank, Caltex spokesman Sam Collyer said.
Firefighters cordoned off the area and doused the spill with foam to prevent it from igniting. The leak was contained in a catchment area and was being pumped to a nearby holding tank, he said.Four people, two terminal workers and two firefighters, were treated after being affected by fumes and split fuel, according to emergency services.
