Two hospitalised after major chemical spill in Brisbane

Posted on 8 November 2012
Two people have been taken to hospital and an industrial area has been evacuated after a major chemical spill in Brisbane's south.

The spill of an unspecified chemical happened in a warehouse on Stradbroke Street at Heathwood about 10.15am (AEST) on Wednesday, the Department of Community Safety said.

Initial reports said the spill involved 1000 litres of the chemical.

Police have set up an exclusion zone around the spill site, and some adjacent properties have been evacuated.

Two people were taken to hospital with breathing difficulties.

Police and six fire crews are at the scene.

Members of the Queensland Fire Service's Scientific Branch, wearing hazmat suits and breathing gear, have gone into the warehouse to decide how to clean up the spill.
